About
Christopher M. Whelan is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work has advanced minimally invasive approaches to complex pelvic and renal conditions. His research centers on robotic-assisted surgery for pelvic organ prolapse and nephron-sparing techniques for kidney tumors. Whelan’s landmark 2009 study on robot-assisted laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy (RALS) was among the first to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of this novel approach for securing vaginal apex prolapse, establishing a foundation for modern robotic pelvic reconstruction with 61 citations. He further transformed renal cancer management by investigating why partial nephrectomy utilization rates vary so dramatically.
