August Wilhelm Frahm is a pioneering analytical chemist whose work has fundamentally advanced our understanding of complex pharmaceutical excipients, particularly the nonionic emulsifier Cremophor® EL. His primary research areas encompass separation science, capillary electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry, with a specialized focus on the structural elucidation of heterogeneous polyethoxylated compounds. Frahm’s major contribution lies in developing innovative hyphenated techniques—specifically combining cyclodextrin-modified micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography with delayed extraction matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry—to separate and characterize previously intractable components.
