Abstract
The increasing demand for compact, lightweight, and efficient motors has driven significant advancements in permanent magnet motor design. There is a growing need for technological advancements in miniaturization and weight reduction with increasing demand for compact motors across various fields. To reduce weight, steel back yokes in outer-rotor surface-mounted permanent magnet motors were replaced with plastic, enhancing performance in applications where size and weight are critical, such as in robotics, medical devices, electric vehicles, and drones. In this paper, the electromagnetic properties of an anisotropic ring-type permanent magnet in conjunction with a coreless rotor design are studied and analyzed. The paper explores the trade-offs between weight reduction and electromagnetic performance, providing an analysis of how material substitutions impact a motor's functionality. It also highlights the potential benefits and challenges associated with miniaturization. Furthermore, the changes in electromagnetic performance due to the substitution of the back yoke material were also compared.
