Abstract

Image segmentation methods are essential in computer vision applications. This paper proposes a new algorithm to detect a hand in an image and then to create a convex hull around it. A hand thus detected, via a stationary video camera placed in front of the user, could serve to control robots of various kinds. This goal is achieved by proposing a new process of hand segmentation and recognition utilizing Open CV image processing framework. The algorithm is able to identify hand in the picture and prepare the separated object for gesture recognition. Final implementation was written and verified in the C# language.
