Abstract
A multiprocessor system with eight CPU’s is built for real time applications such as robot control, digital signal processing and simulation of neural networks. Six processors execute real time processes and the seventh manages a fast file SYStem. The eighth processor runs Unix System V.3 and helps in program development, loading, scheduling and monitoring the processes on the seven real-time CPU’s. In addition, the Unix processor provides networking utilities such as telnet, rlogin, and rcp via TCP/IP. Shared global memory is used to pass data from one processor to another and multiprocessor locks are used for synchronization and mutual exclusion. The eight processor system named Kumaran, is used here to build a Swept Sine Vibration Control system.
