Abstract
Abstract This article provides an overview of medical robotic systems and technologies. After introduction of the basic concepts of medical robotics, and introducing a classification of medical robotic systems based on the operator interaction modality, the article discusses the general application areas of robotics technology in medical applications. The presentation is concluded with a discussion on the major research challenges in the area.
