Abstract

In this paper, a new type of educational robot is devised to invigorate the kid's mathematics education by taking the printed arithmetic equation as input and showing the result in form of 7-segment display method. An open source, Robotic Operating System ROS is applied to Pioneer 3, a differential drive robot from Omron Corporation, to identify image input and perform specific object relocation tasks. For the image processing module, a Kinect-based segmentation and recognition method is adopted. For the robotic motion module, a series of robotic perception and localization algorithm with PID control is implemented.
