Abstract
Industry 5.0 integrates human creativity with collaborative robotics (Cobots) to reshape the global manufacturing landscape. Such cooperation demands real-time synchronization, deterministic and low-latency communication, facilitated by Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), for seamless operation. However, the inherent openness of the wireless medium and device mobility introduce notable unpredictability to industrial systems. Nevertheless, contention-based wireless medium access protocols exacerbate unreliability in critical industrial systems. This paper introduces an open Radio Intelligent Controller (RIC) that utilizes IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi network to enable wireless TSN and facilitate human-cobot collaboration in Industry 5.0. The RIC, a cloudnative system, ensures deterministic communication via mApps designed to optimize TSN operations. Evaluations demonstrate that the RIC, along with its mApps, can monitor network performance and offer a radio control interface. This allows third-party mApps to develop advanced AI algorithms for realtime wireless network optimization, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of wireless TSN control and data transmission.
