Abstract
Computer vision is a branch of artificial intelligence (AI) that allows computers and systems to derive meaningful information from digital photos, videos, robots, and software, such as for image processing or training artificial neural networks (deep learning). The goal of computer vision is straightforward: to automate tasks that humans can execute with superior accuracy, reliability, and safety in some circumstances. Computer vision will also play an important part in the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI) and artificial superintelligence (ASI) by allowing them to analyze information on par with, if not better than, the human visual system. Computer vision, as a technological subject, tries to apply its ideas and models to the development of computer vision systems. This chapter provides an overview of the overall computer vision sector as well as applications.
