Abstract

Dynamic displacement measurement is an important issue when objects are in motion. This research demonstrates the simple, low cost, and easy to construct optical fiber based dynamic displacement sensor using polymer optical fiber. The proposed sensor rely on the optical fiber macro-bending loss and the power coupling method. When displacement varies the bend-radius of the fiber will increase or decrease which produces optical power loss while twisting structure would be employed to the couple that power loss. However in this research we have used beam quality analyzer to realized coupling power in passive fiber. The coupled optical power loss in passive fiber calibrated according to displacement change, and have achieved dynamic displacement measurement up to 100 mm at the different speed (2mm\sec, 5mm\sec, and 10mm\sec). This proposed sensor has a much industrial application which can be used in robotic, precision alignment, civil structure, 3D printers and many more.
