摘要

This chapter introduces several long-term research projects in social robotics. As the years progress, there is a growing anticipation that social robots will have the ability to significantly reduce human workload. Potential applications are envisioned for elderly care facilities, hospitals, restaurants, and various other settings where robots can assume manual tasks, thereby assisting in the quality time management of human workers. Through a detailed examination of specific examples, this chapter explores how established research projects approach the goals outlined by modern society. The ethorobotic approach advocates for collaboration between researchers developing robust solutions to enhance the movement and manipulation capabilities of robots and those focusing on their social interactive abilities. In line with this perspective, this chapter provides an overview of robots belonging to different categories. The NAO represents a humanoid designed for experiments studying human–robot interaction, akin to the more zoomorphic AIBO robot. Kaspar is designed to resemble a human or human-like puppet and is deployed specifically to interact with children. In contrast, BellaBot represents one example of the forefront of commercial robots, enabling an ethorobotic evaluation from an applied perspective.
