About

Dr. Wenkang Zuo is a structural engineering researcher whose work focuses on the behavior and design of cold-formed steel connections, with a particular emphasis on hollow section joints. His most significant contribution to date is a comprehensive experimental campaign on cold-formed steel T-joints featuring semi-oval hollow section (SOHS) chords, published in 2023 and already garnering 42 citations. This study systematically investigated the structural performance of joints combining SOHS chords with rectangular (RHS) and square (SHS) hollow section braces, testing three chord sizes and nine brace configurations. By generating critical data on the strength, stiffness, and failure modes of these novel connections, Dr. Zuo’s work directly supports the development of design guidelines for lightweight steel structures. His research addresses an important gap in understanding how non-standard hollow sections perform in welded joints, contributing to more efficient and innovative structural solutions. With his work already attracting attention from the research community, Dr. Zuo is establishing himself as a rising expert in cold-formed steel connection design, laying the groundwork for safer and more economical steel construction.
