About
Somporn Chantara is a leading environmental scientist whose research focuses on the atmospheric chemistry of biomass burning aerosols in Southeast Asia, a region critically impacted by seasonal haze. Her work is foundational in understanding how smoke from agricultural and forest fires—particularly from Myanmar and northern Thailand—affects air quality and climate.
