About
Dr. Shuwu Dai is a leading figure in Chinese lunar exploration, whose work has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of the Moon's surface and environment. His primary research areas encompass planetary science, space instrumentation, and the geological analysis of extraterrestrial terrains. Dr. Dai's most significant contribution is his central role in the Chinese Chang'e-3 mission, the first spacecraft to soft-land on the Moon in nearly four decades. As detailed in his highly cited 2016 overview, he helped define the scientific payloads that enabled the lander and Yutu rover to examine the texture, mineralogy, and structure of the local lunar terrain. This work, which has garnered over 6 citations, laid the groundwork for subsequent missions. His efforts in operating the ultraviolet telescope on the lander provided unique astronomical observations from the lunar surface. Through his leadership in payload development and mission science, Dr. Dai has solidified China's position in deep-space exploration, inspiring a new generation of planetary scientists.
