S. Calchi Novati is a leading figure in gravitational microlensing, a powerful technique for detecting exoplanets and stellar-mass objects that are otherwise invisible. His research centers on developing and implementing automated, real-time detection strategies to overcome the inherent rarity and unpredictability of microlensing events. His most impactful contribution is the design and execution of a fully-deterministic observing strategy, detailed in a highly-cited 2010 paper (88 citations), which provides a robust framework for statistically inferring the demographics of exoplanet populations across the galaxy.
