About
Rongrong Lu is a rising investigator at the intersection of pediatric neurosurgery and neurorehabilitation engineering. Her research focuses on two critical frontiers: the safe application of stereo electroencephalography (SEEG) in very young children and the integration of virtual reality (VR) with robotic systems for post-stroke motor recovery. In her landmark 2024 study on robot-assisted SEEG, Lu provided the first dedicated evidence that this advanced mapping technique can be performed with high accuracy and safety even in children under three years of age—a population previously considered high-risk for such procedures. This work, garnering early citations, fills a crucial gap in pediatric epilepsy surgery guidance. Concurrently, her 2025 pilot study on VR-based robotic training for hemiplegic stroke patients demonstrated significant improvements in lower limb motor function, daily living activities, and quality of life, establishing a novel, patient-accepted rehabilitation paradigm. By bridging the gap between invasive neuromodulation and immersive rehabilitation technology, Lu is shaping safer, more effective interventions across the lifespan, from the developing brain to the aging one.
