Jina Kim is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of pain neuroscience and advanced materials engineering, whose work spans two distinct but equally impactful domains. In pain medicine, Kim led the groundbreaking proof-of-concept study on VVZ-149, a novel dual-action analgesic that simultaneously inhibits glycine transporter type 2 and serotonin receptor 5-HT2A. This innovative molecule, evaluated in a rigorous randomized, double-blind trial for postoperative pain following gastrectomy, represents a significant step toward treating the often-neglected affective component of pain, offering new hope for patients suffering from emotional distress alongside physical discomfort.
