Dr. Jibiao Zhu is a leading figure in atmospheric aerosol research, specializing in the remote sensing of aerosol composition and properties. His most significant contribution is the development and application of the GRASP/Component algorithm, a groundbreaking approach for retrieving detailed aerosol component concentrations from satellite observations. In his landmark 2022 study, which has garnered 41 citations, Dr. Zhu applied this algorithm to the entire archive of POLDER-3 multi-angular polarimetric data, producing the first-ever global climatology of aerosol composition. This work provides an unprecedented view of the distribution of key aerosol types, such as black carbon, brown carbon, and mineral dust, directly from space.
