Eric P. Achterberg is a leading marine biogeochemist whose research focuses on the cycling of trace elements and nutrients in the ocean, with a particular emphasis on iron and other micronutrients that limit primary productivity. His major contributions include pioneering work on the role of iron in regulating phytoplankton growth and carbon export in high-nutrient, low-chlorophyll (HNLC) regions, as well as developing advanced analytical techniques for measuring trace metals at sea.
