Christos Komninos is a leading urologic surgeon and researcher whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of minimally invasive kidney cancer surgery. His primary research focuses on optimizing functional outcomes following robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN), with a particular emphasis on comparing different vascular clamp techniques—off-clamp, selective arterial clamp, and main artery clamp—to preserve renal function. His landmark 2014 study, cited 66 times, demonstrated that renal function is equivalent across these techniques at one-year follow-up, a finding that has guided surgical decision-making worldwide.
