About
Chaitanya Rajarshi is an observational astronomer whose work bridges the critical gap between quiescent molecular clouds and the onset of star formation, with a parallel focus on advancing astronomical instrumentation. His most impactful contribution is the first optical polarization map of the Polaris Flare, a project using the RoboPol instrument that has garnered 47 citations. By tracing the plane-of-the-sky orientation of magnetic fields via polarized starlight, this work provides essential insights into the magnetic field structure of quiescent clouds—a poorly understood precursor stage to star formation. In the realm of instrumentation, Rajarshi was instrumental in the design and development of a second-generation Robo-AO adaptive optics system for the IUCAA 2-meter telescope.
