About

C. Snodgrass is a leading figure in time-domain astronomy, specializing in gravitational microlensing and robotic telescope networks. Their research focuses on the detection and characterization of exoplanets, particularly Earth-mass and terrestrial worlds, using the unique capabilities of microlensing. Snodgrass made major contributions by developing and implementing automated, real-time observing strategies, most notably through the ARTEMiS (Automated Robotic Terrestrial Exoplanet Microlensing Search) system. This expert system enabled the first automated real-time detection of a weak microlensing anomaly, as demonstrated in the OGLE-2008-BLG-510 event. Their work on RoboNet-II and the RoboTAP prioritization system has been instrumental in optimizing the global network of robotic telescopes for follow-up observations, significantly increasing the efficiency of planet searches. With key papers accumulating over 100 and 88 citations, Snodgrass’s impact is evident in their foundational work on optimization metrics for microlens planet searches and their leadership in the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network. Beyond exoplanets, Snodgrass has also applied robotic telescope networks to study cometary activity, such as the perihelion behavior of comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko, showcasing a versatile approach to time-domain science.
