Artificial Intelligence: An Innovative Technology Towards Solving Insecurity Challenges in Nigeria

Abstract

Nigeria is under siege by armed bandits especially Boko Haram. Sinister groups are operating in various guess’ that had left the military skeptical and agape. The challenges of insecurity, is a source of concern to many citizens hence the study is opting that Artificial Intelligence (AI) be adopted by the military command structure in their attempt to stop the menace. It is a purposive study that relies on Secondary sources mostly previous literature. Artificial Intelligence is the ability to create tools/solutions through human imaginations. It is service through the use of computers to enable robots and other machines facilitate, or mimic human intelligence. AI when effectively manipulated will without doubt provide opportunities for quick decision-making; create dominance that could reduce the serial killings perpetuated in the nation that is endowed with multiple natural resources. It will also assist in intelligence gathering, thereby enabling the State to be more proactive; programmed machines may do the surveillance jobs the military personnel are physically contending with now. Applying AI will reduce human causalities. In conclusion, the paper observed that despite the many benefits of AI, its applicability in Nigeria is abysmal. It is recommended that men in the security sector be regularly trained and their knowledge up dated. Funding research and technology must be seen as imperative. Above all, the citizens must be willing to cooperate with the security agents; such collaboration between AI and humans will help to surmount critical security challenges in Nigeria.
