Abstract

The state and trends in the development of crop production and livestock farming in the Tambov region, the food supply of the region’s population are considered. Reserves for increasing agricultural production are identified, and proposals for the further development of agriculture are substantiated. Over the years of implementation the State program, in the region agricultural production at comparable prices increased by 42.1%, including crop products - by 26.2%, livestock products - by 67.7%. There was an increase in the production of grain, sugar beets, oilseeds, fruits, livestock and poultry for slaughter (in live weight), and a decline in the production of potatoes, vegetables, milk, and eggs. The achieved level of agricultural production does not allow satisfying the needs of the region’s population for some food products (vegetables, fruits, milk, eggs). Further increase in the production of crop and livestock products is possible on the basis of rational land use, optimization of the structure of sown areas, compliance with crop rotations, application of fertilizers, land reclamation, renewal of the technical fleet, use of the precision farming system, advanced technologies and robotics, strengthening the food supply, improving the genetic potential of animals, preventing the occurrence and spread of animal diseases, concentrating production in agricultural organizations and farms, improving state support.
