Abstract

In this paper, we have proposed dancing as a new application area for humanoid robots. First, we investigated the meaning of entertainment and clarified several distinctive characteristics of it. Then we examined the role of robots in the area of entertainment. By showing that dance performed by robots have several significant characteristics, we indicated that robot dance could become a new type of entertainment.
