Abstract
Examines the use of robots in Israeli industry. Two thriving sectors are responsible for the majority of automation installation—carbide inserts and the electronics industry, with robots also being employed in a number of kibbutzes industries including lens manufacturing and furniture production. Discusses the products of Eshed Robotec, the Israeli specialist in education robotics. A joint venture with Yaskawa of Japan has resulted in a low‐cost industrial robot for lightweight application and Eshed is diversifying into robots for high school. It has developed a low‐cost teaching robot for 11–15 year olds which includes a robot, controller and a teaching package. The main market is expected to be the USA.
