Abstract

HDDS (high density data storage device) is emerging in a variety of optical and hybrid forms to become the Write Once Read Only Memory (WORM) disk, the erasable magneto-optical disk, and the current primary agent of change addressed here, the CD-ROM. This article studies the HDDS market, and the current trends : in-house production, robotic libraries, personal readers (DD-1 EB, the Sony corporation's Data DiscMan Electronic Book), HDDS and publishing, and HDDS and education.
