Abstract
It is our great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 3rd IEEE/RAS-EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (BioRob 2010) held in Tokyo, Japan on September 26–29, 2010. This biennial conference series was launched in 2006 under the General Chair, Professor Paolo Dario, at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, in Pisa, Italy, and was followed by the 2nd one in 2008 under the General Chairs, Professor Deirdre R. Meldrum at Arizona State University and Professor Oussama Khatib at Stanford University in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. The conference is jointly sponsored by Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) and the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) to enhance the synergic effect by getting together the interdisciplinary researchers involved in both biology and robotics. BioRob is an exciting conference dealing with rapidly growing fields which are discussed and shared by scientists, engineers and medical doctors from different backgrounds.
