Abstract
Computer science teachers often have occasion to discuss and explain the ideas of data, programs, and algorithms to computer novices. These ideas can be explained in general terms or as an introduction to further study. Computer literacy textbooks devote considerable space to develop fundamental software concepts. The first chapters of CS1 texts extend the discussion to topics such as abstraction, modularization, and information hiding.
