Abstract
Abstract: The development of single-incision and robotic procedures to decrease the invasiveness of surgery is reviewed. In particular, natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES), which is a minimally invasive surgical (MIS) procedure that eliminates incisions altogether, is discussed in detail and current research being conducted to develop robotic and endoscopic technology to expand its clinical applications are described.
