Abstract

The field of software engineering is currently undergoing a rapid evolution (paradigm shift) toward the notion of component assembly and integration ("component-oriented programming"). On the other hand, the MVC (Model-View-Control) approach to graphical user interfaces (GUIs), pioneered by the Smalltalk language, has recently been exploited by Sun for Java's Swing GUI application programming interface (API). We propose our particular contribution to an architecture for effective human-machine interaction (HMI) inspired by both of these ways of programming. The specific application on which we are working as a proof-of-concept is a mobile clean-up robot simulator.
