Abstract
This paper presents a new sleeve-welding method using a robot and a CO{sub 2} laser developed for repairing corroded steam generator tubes. It can accommodate a wider range of thermal conditions and geometries than other fusion welding methods and has been successfully demonstrated in a commercial nuclear power plant in Belgium. In the new laser welding process, ROSA (the remotely operated service arm), handles the sleeves, installation, tooling, welding and inspection equipment while attached to the underside of the steam generator tubesheet.
