Abstract
Three-dimensional real-time positioning is a critical requirement to allow for improved surveying and autonomous vehicle control. Given such a system and a project data link, multiple users can access position and design data. This paper will present a look at potential positioning system utilizing lasers. In addition, the paper will review the project data link and potential applications. Laser positioning systems and GPS offer significant promise. A useful system would provide ± 10 mm in x, y, and z for sites 400 meters × 400 meters and maintain 10 readings per second. The paper concentrates on potential performance improvement in construction positioning/project data integration. These potential improvements include craftsperson productivity improvement, equipment productivity improvement, measurement of existing facilities, and robotics and autonomous vehicle control.
