Abstract
Abstract New electromechanical drive systems endowed with a combination of desirable characteristics are a considerable impetus to technological progress. Taking a robot axis drive as an example, it should combine a low moment of inertia and low torque pulsations with high power/weight ratio, high torque overload capability and high efficiency. The advent of rare-earth permanent magnets has opened up the prospect of significantly improved designs for such devices, as well as for a range of other industrial drives, small electrical machines and micromotors.
