Abstract
During the last quarter century, blood-cell analysis has progressed from the use of labor-intensive manual procedures to the use of highly automated instruments capable of measuring many disease-associated parameters. Modern hematology analyzers incorporate nontraditional flow cytometry, robotics, and expert system technologies. This article reviews the principles, applications, and user-friendliness of these new systems.
