Abstract
Automatic disassembly of disused products into parts is important for high-level recycling. Analysis of a disassembly process in contrast to an assembly process suggests that disassembly is easier than assembly and that it can be performed by a robot with appropriate behaviors, such as to look for parts, to turn a hexagon counterclockwise and to make a loosened part looser. The disassembly process for unknown simple mechanical products is simulated using a set of behaviors of a robot. A concept of an autonomous disassembly system is proposed using behavior-based robotics with help of other control methods and appropriate design of products.
