Abstract

A totally automated procedure has been developed for the detection and quantitation of cocaine and benzoylecgonine (cocaine metabolite) in urine. A Zymate laboratory robotic system confirms positive samples from the Syva ETS by performing the extraction and derivatization of cocaine and benzoylecgonine. The cocaine and derivatized benzoylecgonine are detected by using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Automation of these procedures has proven to be accurate, reliable, and efficient.
