摘要
Permanent magnet (PM) motors and drives are being used increasingly in a wide range of applications, which include machine ' tools, robotics, aerospace generators and actuators and electric vehicles. This has been made possible with the advent of high performance permanent magnets with high coercivity and residual magnetism, which make it possible for the PM to have superior power density, torque to inertia ratio and efficiency, when compared to an induction or conventional DC machine. This paper surveys the literature of the PM motor and drives and includes line-start as well as inverter fed applications and designs. The inverter-fed literature is divided into two, those that deal with drives that use discrete feedback every 60' (electrical) for a three phase machine, and those that deal with drives that use continuous feedback. In the former, the ideal machine back emf is trapezoidal and in the latter it is sinusoidal. The paper should prove useful to both researchers as well as practising engineers as a signpost to the current state of the art.
