Energy in robotic surgery

: The use of energy is ubiquitous within robotic surgery. Radiofrequency energy is used to dissect and transect tissue as well as achieve hemostasis. While the energy devices used in robotic surgery are similar to those utilized during laparoscopy, there are important differences that must be considered. These are reviewed in detail and guidance is provided with regard to the risks, benefits and alternatives to each energy device as it is used in common situations.
