Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used to develop systems that can understand, think, and learn just like human beings. The AI is replicating the human intelligence and can perform tasks such as playing games, planning surgery, driving a vehicle, suggesting a shopping list, etc. With the help of AI, the software or processes developed can solve real-world problems, such as health care, travel, marketing, traffic, etc., with greater accuracy and speed. In a way, it provides an intelligent link between perception and action. The historical perspective gives an insight into understanding the systematic development and growth of AI. There are seven types of AI systems that can be used to represent intelligent behavior, among them learning new things and explaining and making suggestions to users. In addition, with the help of machine learning and artificial neural networks, robots have been developed that work in an environment where there is a risk to humans. The expert systems using AI are being created that can be used for a large number of activities. These systems have a large number of applications, including solving knowledge-intensive tasks quickly. The expert systems and AI can be used to create personal virtual assistants. AI has several advantages and disadvantages that are to be considered while developing some applications.
