Vinicius M. Placco is a leading observational astronomer whose work centers on large-scale photometric surveys, transient phenomena, and the electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational-wave events. He is a key figure in the Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey (S-PLUS), a pioneering project imaging ~9,300 square degrees of the southern sky through 12 optical filters—seven narrow and five broadband. This unique filter system enables unprecedented spectral energy distribution (SED) reconstruction, morphology classification, and redshift estimation for millions of galaxies.
