Steven R. Majewski is a leading astrophysicist renowned for his pioneering work in Galactic archaeology and the structure of the Milky Way. His major contributions center on mapping stellar tidal streams—the fossil remnants of dwarf galaxies and star clusters torn apart by our Galaxy’s gravity. Through his pilot surveys with modest aperture telescopes, Majewski has demonstrated that these low-surface-brightness tidal features are ubiquitous in spiral galaxies, providing critical evidence for the hierarchical assembly of galaxies.
