About
Sheng-Yuan Chu is a leading researcher in the design and fabrication of advanced piezoelectric sensors, with a particular focus on lead-free materials for high-performance MEMS accelerometers. His major contributions center on developing novel accelerometer architectures that simultaneously achieve wide frequency ranges, high accuracy, and low transverse sensitivity—a persistent challenge in vibration sensing. In his highly cited 2022 work, Chu designed a square MEMS piezoelectric accelerometer that operates effectively across a broader frequency spectrum while maintaining precision in low-G environments, addressing critical limitations of conventional designs. His 2025 research further advances the field by engineering lead-free (Na,K,Li)NbO₃ ceramics doped with ZnO to achieve high piezoelectric g-coefficients, enabling shear-mode accelerometers with exceptional bandwidth. This work is particularly significant for its environmental sustainability, replacing toxic lead-based materials without sacrificing performance. With over 16 citations across these key publications, Chu’s research is gaining recognition for its practical impact on industrial vibration monitoring, aerospace, and automotive sensing. His systematic approach—from material synthesis to device fabrication—positions him as a key innovator in the transition toward eco-friendly, high-accuracy piezoelectric sensors.
