Peter Buschkamp is an instrumental astronomer whose work has significantly advanced near-infrared observational capabilities, particularly through his contributions to the LUCIFER instrument at the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT). His primary research focus lies in the development of cryogenic instrumentation for multi-object spectroscopy, a critical area for studying faint, distant astronomical sources. Buschkamp’s most notable achievement is his leading role in designing and implementing the LUCIFER MOS (Multi-Object Spectrograph), a full cryogenic mask-exchange unit that operates at extremely low temperatures.
