About

Lianggang Zhu is a pioneering thoracic surgeon whose research has fundamentally advanced the surgical management of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). His primary focus lies in comparing the efficacy and outcomes of robotic-assisted lobectomy (RAL) versus video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy (VAL), two minimally invasive techniques that have revolutionized lung cancer surgery. Zhu’s landmark 2021 study, cited over 116 times, was one of the first to rigorously evaluate whether RAL improves perioperative outcomes and long-term efficacy over traditional VAL in NSCLC patients. Building on this, he led the groundbreaking RVlob randomized controlled trial (2024), which provided the first high-level evidence from a randomized setting that RAL and VAL offer comparable long-term survival and perioperative results. This work has been instrumental in guiding clinical decision-making, offering surgeons and patients clarity on the trade-offs between these advanced approaches.
