About

B. Flaugher is a leading experimental physicist whose career has been defined by transformative contributions to dark energy research and precision cosmology. As a key figure in the Dark Energy Survey (DES) collaboration, Flaugher played a central role in the development and deployment of the Dark Energy Camera (DECam)—a groundbreaking 570-megapixel instrument mounted on the Blanco 4-meter telescope in Chile. This camera enabled one of the most comprehensive surveys of the southern sky, producing data that has been cited over 8,000 times and fundamentally advanced our understanding of cosmic acceleration. Flaugher also spearheaded the design of the Dark Energy Spectrometer (DESpec), a proposed multi-fiber spectroscopic upgrade that would extend DES’s legacy by obtaining precise redshifts for millions of galaxies.
