About

Andreu Font-Ribera is a leading figure in experimental cosmology, whose work is central to the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) project. His primary research focuses on the instrumentation and data analysis required to map the large-scale structure of the universe and probe the nature of dark energy. Font-Ribera has been instrumental in developing and characterizing the complex hardware that makes DESI possible, including its 5,000 robotic fiber positioners and the overall instrument design—work detailed in papers with over 230 and 50 citations, respectively. He achieved a landmark result with the first detection of the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) signal from early DESI data, a paper with 37 citations that demonstrated the instrument's power to measure cosmic distances. His ongoing contributions include tackling critical systematic effects, such as fiber assignment incompleteness, to ensure the precision of the final cosmological measurements. Through his deep involvement in instrument design, calibration, and the first scientific results, Font-Ribera is helping to build the most detailed 3D map of the universe ever created, directly advancing our understanding of cosmic acceleration.
