The Franka Production 3 (FP3) is a 7-DOF, force-sensitive collaborative robotic arm manufactured by Franka Robotics GmbH (Munich, Germany; subsidiary of Agile Robots SE since late 2023). It features torque sensors in all 7 joints, ±0.1 mm repeatability, 3 kg payload, and 855 mm reach, and is positioned as an industry-certified cobot for both production and research use. The arm executes programmed manipulation tasks autonomously once configured, with no human performing the task itself during operation; however, community reports document real software/hardware reliability issues including positional offsets, spurious force readings, gripper connectivity failures, and real-time kernel communication errors. Vendor claims of effortless no-code automation and AI-driven learned-policy autonomy (via NVIDIA GR00T) are aspirational and not independently verified at production scale.
